Course Title: ENGLISH FOR EVERYDAY
Who is the course for?
This introduction course is for speakers of other languages who are new to learning English. It will help you to gain confidence to move to further ESOL study.
How is this course delivered?
This course is face to face in one of our Centres. Some online learning may be incorporated. If you don’t have a laptop computer, please talk to your lecturer about borrowing one from the service. We are committed to ensuring all learners can participate.
Do you gain any qualifications?
No – this course is not accredited. There are no examinations.
Do you need to be interviewed or assessed before enrolling on the course?
Yes. You will have an assessment & informal interview to find the best class for you.
What will you learn?
• To say and write the sounds and letters of the English alphabet
• How to ask and answer personal information questions including form filling
• The language related to a range of everyday topics including:
o local cultural and leisure services (parks, libraries and local activities),
o shopping
o healthy eating
o health
o education
o transport
All ESOL courses include embedded employability, citizenship, numeracy skills and enrichment activities.
Your teacher/tutor will give you a Diagnostic Assessment so he/she can talk with you more about the English skills that you need to work on. You will be expected to study at home and complete some homework.
What will you need to bring?
You will need an A4 ringbinder, pen, pencil and notebook. A dictionary is optional.
What next?
You can progress to a longer Pre-Entry, ESOL Entry 1 or ESOL Entry 2 course on our main ESOL programme. Your teacher will advise which level is right for you.
Holidays Most courses are term-time only. Your lecturer will give you full details at the start of your course.
