Learn practical plant propagation techniques including seed sowing, cuttings, division and layering. Through hands-on activities, you will develop the skills to grow new plants from existing ones, helping you garden more sustainably and reduce costs. Suitable for beginners and those wishing to build confidence in plant propagation.
Qualification: Certificate of Completion (no formal qualification).
Entry Requirements: No interview or assessment. Open to all learners.
You will learn how to:
- Understand plant propagation principles
- Select suitable propagation methods
- Grow plants from seed
- Take and care for cuttings
- Use division and layering techniques
- Create suitable growing conditions
- Work safely with gardening tools
- Apply sustainable gardening practices
Please bring: Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, warm/waterproof layers, a water bottle and optional gardening gloves.
Materials provided: Tools, equipment, seeds, compost, plants, handouts and guidance materials.
Tutor: Lee Hayden, experienced gardener and educator with a passion for sustainable growing.
Additional information: Indoor activities will be available during poor weather. Learners will be encouraged to practise at home and may be able to take some propagated plants home. No previous experience is required.
Progression: Organic Gardening Level 1, seasonal growing courses and other horticulture or sustainability programmes.
