When: Thursdays, 10.00am to 12.30pm

Learn the fundamentals of garden design and how to create attractive, practical and sustainable outdoor spaces. This beginner-friendly course introduces key design principles and helps you plan your own garden with confidence. Through practical activities and simple design exercises, you will explore layout planning, plant selection and ways to create spaces for relaxation, food growing and wildlife.

Qualification: Certificate of Completion (no formal qualification).

Entry Requirements: No interview or assessment. Open to all learners.

You will learn how to:
- Understand basic garden design principles
- Assess and analyse a garden space
- Create simple garden layout plans
- Select suitable plants for different conditions
- Use colour, texture and seasonal interest effectively
- Incorporate sustainable and wildlife-friendly features
- Develop a basic design for your own garden

Please bring: Notebook and pen, suitable outdoor clothing and footwear, warm/waterproof layers and a water bottle.

Materials provided: Drawing materials, templates, measuring tools, plant guides, handouts and example garden plans.

Tutor: Lee Hayden, experienced gardener and educator with a passion for sustainable growing.

Additional information: Some sessions include outdoor observation and practical site activities. Indoor design sessions will be provided during poor weather. Learners will be supported to create a simple design for their own space. No previous experience is required.

Progression: Propagation Techniques, seasonal fruit and vegetable growing courses, Organic Gardening Level 1 and other horticulture or landscaping programmes.
