Learn the principles and practical techniques of preparing a successful no-dig garden for the growing season. Suitable for beginners and experienced gardeners alike, this hands-on course explores how to create fertile growing beds, improve soil health and plan productive planting without digging. No-dig gardening is a sustainable approach that protects soil structure, reduces weeds and supports healthy soil ecosystems while creating productive, low-maintenance growing spaces.
Qualification: Certificate of Completion (no formal qualification).
Entry Requirements: No interview or assessment. Open to all learners.
You will learn how to: • Explain the principles of no-dig gardening
- Prepare new and existing beds without digging
- Select and apply suitable mulching materials
- Assess soil health using simple techniques
- Plan seasonal planting and soil management
- Manage weeds, pests and fertility in a no-dig system
Please bring: Suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, warm/waterproof layers, a water bottle and optional gardening gloves.
Materials provided: Tools and gardening equipment, compost and mulching materials, handouts and guidance materials.
Tutor: Lee Hayden, experienced gardener and educator with a passion for sustainable growing.
Additional information: Sessions include practical allotment-based activities. Indoor learning will be available during poor weather. Learners will be encouraged to apply techniques at home using supporting materials. No previous experience is required.
