The NCFE Level 1 Award in Garment Making is designed for learners with some experience of using a sewing machine. This practical and theory-based qualification develops the skills and knowledge needed to create and construct a basic garment.

You will learn about the primary materials, processes and skills used in creative fashion and textiles. You will work from patterns, with each learner working on their own projects. You will be taught by an experienced, professional tutor in a creative and friendly environment. You will learn through practical demonstrations, research, and applied practical work, including health and safety in the sewing working environment. Learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units.

How Will I be Assessed
You will be assessed by your tutor throughout the course, you will build a portfolio of evidence in your practical work and theoretical knowledge to demonstrate your skills, and progress towards achieving your qualification.

Materials
You are required to purchase a sewing pattern, the fabric and materials needed to make your chosen garment. Your Tutor will discuss materials and patterns with you when you start your course.

Progression
When you have achieved your Level 1 qualification, you will have developed the knowledge and skills to progress onto the
NCFE Level 2 Garment Making Qualification

If you’re on a low wage or receiving certain benefits you may qualify for a 100% or 70% concession. Speak to frontline staff to find out if you are eligible.

Entry Requirements
You do not need to complete an assessment. However, to complete this course you need to be able to read and write English fluently, at least to Entry 3 level. It is also desirable that you have completed a previous non-accredited textiles course, such as Start Sewing or the E3 Garment Making qualification.
