Course Information Sheet 2024-25
ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL) COURSES
ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English and who do not have a Level 2 qualification in English.
Levels range from Pre-Entry to Entry 1, 2, 3 then Level 1 and Level 2. Lessons build skills in Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing. They also incorporate digital, employability and numeracy skills and include enrichment activities. For full details of course content at each level please refer to our Learning Hub or our website www.adultlearning.co.uk
All courses, except Pre-Entry and Introduction courses, can lead to nationally recognised Ascentis Skills for Life ESOL qualifications. At Entry level your lecturer will decide with you which exam(s) you take based on your diagnostic assessments. At Level 1 and Level 2, learners take an Award in Speaking & Listening and complete a Gateway Living and Working in the UK portfolio in Semester 1 (Sept – Feb). In Semester 2 (Feb – July) they take Reading and Writing Awards. At all levels it may sometimes be agreed that you will not take exams during your course if that is the best decision for you.
All our classes are friendly and engaging. You will take part in pair and group work as well as independent study, including homework, using interactive teaching resources and authentic materials. You will build practical skills to help you use English confidently in your home and work life.
