This course is accredited by Gateway. You will gain an Essential Digital Skills Qualification at Level 1. You will learn the following:
• Understand the operating system on our device; know how to check for updates and keep the system and apps up to date
• How to ensure that the information we find on the Internet is reliable, relevant and up to date.
• How we can protect the privacy of our device(s) and our data
• Use file management systems to organise and store information to enable efficient information retrieval on a device and across devices, for example: good naming convention, hierarchy and tagging.
• How to avoid physical and psychological health risks to yourself while using devices
• Create professional documents such as newsletters, reports and CVs.
• Produce spreadsheets and charts
• Interact with others online via email, instant messaging, social media sites, forums, and through other channels
• Carry out online transactions by manage account preferences, uploading/ downloading documents; compare different product and buying options to find the best deals online; identify risks when shopping online to avoid scam websites.
• Being safe and responsible online - personal responsibility to respect the rights of others and understanding the consequences of not following policies related to the use of online content.

Before joining the course you will need to complete a short assessment to make sure this course is suitable for you, unless you have completed Digital Skills – Intermediate course and are progressing to the next level.
