Duration: 1 day per week for 19 weeks
Start date: Monday 3 February 2025 to 21 July 2025 - 9:30am to 3pm
This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop a range of skills and techniques essential for working in the art and design sector. This qualification will:
• Focus on the study of art and design
• Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
• Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills
Learners will extend their knowledge and understanding of the design process and the health and safety issues within art and design.
This qualification was developed in partnership with industry experts within the art and design sector and will provide you with a nationally recognised qualification in art and design.
What you'll learn
This qualification consists of 3 mandatory units:
Unit 01 Investigate sources of ideas in art and design (3 credits)
Unit 02 Explore the use of art and design materials, techniques and visual language (5 credits)
Unit 03 Produce final art and design work (6 credits)
You’ll plan and prepare for the production of your final work, using your developed ideas. You’ll then produce this work using materials and techniques competently and using visual language effectively. On completion of your work you’ll evaluate it in the context of what you have learnt and how your ideas have developed.
Entry requirements
A Level 1 Qualification in Art and Design is required.

Progression: Please note that if you have already completed a Level 1 accredited course in Fashion/Textiles with Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service you are not able to register on another Level 1 accredited course in Fashion/Textiles You may however progress on to a Level 2 Course or complete a non-accredited creative course.
You can enrol onto many of the creative courses available, including Garment Making Level 2, Soft furnishing, felt-making, beaded jewellery, Textile Crafts, arts and crafts, gardening etc. Please see our prospectus and website for the full list of courses available.
