16 weeks, 4 hours each class
Start date: Every Monday starting 24 February 2025 to 21 July 2025 – 9:30am to 2:30pm
What does the course involve?
It involves introducing you to range of garment making skills and techniques. You will learn how to take correct body measurements, follow a commercial pattern, pattern adaptation and alteration. You will also learn skills in garment construction through using different seam finishes, fastenings, whilst working with different fabrics and understanding their properties and application.
You will be required to investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities and apply these to your own work.
Through the development stages of your work, you will research and compare sources and contexts to inspire your ideas.
You will plan, create and evaluate a final outcome piece. You will prepare the tools, materials and equipment required to produce your garment whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
You will need to complete 4 mandatory units:
• Use materials, tools and equipment to develop craft techniques (3 credits)
• Investigate creative enterprise and employment opportunities (5 credits)
• Develop craft ideas (4 credits)
• Create, Present and Evaluate Final Craft Item (3 credits)
How will you be assessed?
Through 100% coursework/portfolio of work which is internally assessed.
Entry requirements
You must have completed a level 1 in creative crafts or have an intermediate knowledge of garment making. We recommend that learners have a good standard of English.
Paying for the course
If you’re on a low wage or receiving certain benefits you may qualify for a 100% or 70% concession. Speak to our frontline staff to find out if you are eligible.
What you can do after
Once you have successfully completed this course you can go on to Level 3 Certificate in Creative Craft. You can also take sewing or fashion courses, depending on your interests.
