This course is designed for those who are new to sewing or looking to refresh skills that may not have been practiced for some time. In this hands-on course, you’ll learn how to thread and use a sewing machine, as well as a variety of techniques that will build your confidence and expand your sewing skills. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to apply these techniques to your own projects, adding professional touches and creative details.
What will I learn?
Throughout the course, you will develop skills in machine sewing, including:
Using Different Stitches: Master straight stitches, twin needle stitching, and automatic stitches.
Working with Various Fabrics: Learn techniques for sewing wool, silky, and fine fabrics.
Creating Details: Explore decorative techniques such as spaced tucks and wave tucks.
Joining Fabric Squares: Perfect your skills in piecing fabric squares together for patchwork projects.
Gathering Techniques: Practice gathering fabric onto a base piece for ruffles and other decorative effects.
Finishing Details: Add piping and different types of zips (concealed and semi-concealed) to your projects.
Top Stitching: Learn how to create clean, precise top stitching for a professional finish.
Machine Maintenance: Gain basic knowledge in maintaining and caring for your sewing machine.

What do I need to bring?
Please bring a folder to store your notes and samples. If you have any of the following equipment, you may want to bring them:
- Embroidery scissors
- Tape measure
- Hand sewing needles
- Pins
- Sewing thread
If you do not have these items, we can provide them during the course.
